Calcium and magnesium in hard water carry a positive electrical charge. Hair, skin, fabric, pipes - anything they touch - carry a negative charge. Opposite charges attract. Not significantly. Hard2Soft is a conditioner, not a softener - the calcium and magnesium are still in your water, just in a form that doesn't bond to anything.
